Significant increase in student places offered at Technical Sciences
20 per cent more students will be offered a place at Technical Sciences this year. There are also still vacant places, because the university has increased its capacity in the wake of corona.
A total of 7,492 applicants have been offered a place at Aarhus University. This is five per cent more than last year, and the highest number ever.
"I'm extremely pleased that, again this year, we can offer places to so many applicants who want to study at Aarhus University. Education strengthens the individual and society, and there will be much need for their knowledge in the future," says Pro-rector Berit Eika, who is particularly happy to see the significant increases in the technical and natural sciences degree programmes.
The faculties of Technical Sciences and Natural Sciences both have 20 per cent more places. Increases are in the engineering area and in the university's IT programmes.
"We’ve initiated major academic initiatives, and launched new study programmes in engineering and IT because there is a great need for knowledge and experts in these areas. For this reason, it is very positive that so many young people have the skills and the desire to move in this direction," says Berit Eika. She also points out that there will be fewer school-leavers in the years to come, and this only reinforces society's need for highly educated labour in these areas.
Still vacant places
This year, Aarhus University has established 539 additional student places to accommodate the higher number of applicants brought about by the corona situation. This means that, despite the large intake, there are still vacant places that can be applied for in the coming weeks.
"Our supervisors are ready to do all they can to help applicants rejected from their other choices. There may be vacant places on related study programmes, so I encourage those who did not get a place to contact us, so that we can try to find a good alternative academic match," says Berit Eika.
The 7,492 applicants now have until 3 August to accept their student places.
