Profile

As co-initiator and co-chair of The Danish Blood Donor Study, I have been instrumental in creating and expanding one of the world’s largest biobanks, now comprising more than 170,000 participants and over three million sequential blood samples. Many participants have undergone chip-based genotyping and are followed through national health registers, providing exceptional opportunities for epidemiological studies. Building on these data, my research focuses on infection susceptibility, cardiometabolic conditions, and the impact of blood donation on donor health.

I am a member of the Management Group of the Big Data Centre for Environment and Health, funded by the Novo Nordisk Fonden Challenge Programme.

I co-lead Europe’s largest center for faecal microbiota transplantation, the Centre for Faecal Microbiota Transplantation, overseeing donor recruitment and component processing, with a research emphasis on identifying donor factors predictive of recipient success.

I began my research career in HIV immunology and have published extensively on studies conducted in Denmark, Zimbabwe, and Guinea-Bissau.
