Research

I am interested in understanding the processes that drive changes in marine ecosystem function over time and space. I take an integretive approach to marine ecology and consider physiology, molecular techniques (e.g., transcriptomics), spatial analyses, food web networks, and cumulative impact assessment as tools to understand ecosystems. Therefore, I use these tools in different contexts and to answer different questions in relation to how organisms, habitats, and ecosystems respond to their changing environments.

I want to know what processes in marine ecosystems lead to biodiversity shifts or loss (e.g., processes related to loss of connectivity, habitat modification, climate related impacts, direct human impact, extinction debt) and how we can use these information to conserve or restore ecosystems as a whole. My research is both fundamental (~70%) and applied (~30%).
