Profile

My undergraduate degree was in mathematics at the University of Oxford (completed 2004). I then took a PhD in statistical genetics at the University of Cambridge (viva 2010). I then spent seven years at University College London, before moving to Aarhus University (first AIAS, then my current department, QGG).

Research

I am a statistical geneticist who develops tools for analysing data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS). I am particularly interested in SNP-based heritability analysis, construction of polygenic risk scores, and mixed-model association analysis. I make all my tools available in my software package LDAK (www.ldak.org).

Teaching activities

Each July, I run a 5ECT course on Analysis of GWAS data, open to MSC students, PhD students and postdocs. You can find out more details on the AU Summer University webpages (https://international.au.dk/education/admissions/summeruniversity/courses-2022/analysisofgwasdata).

I also co-teach on a 10ECT course on Advanced Topics in Genomics, as part of the MSC in Bioinformatics. You can find out more details on the AU Course Catalog (https://kursuskatalog-legacy.au.dk/en/course/121446/Advanced-Topics-in-Genomics).

Finally, I also run regular one-day workshops on GWAS analyses. See the LDAK webpage for details (www.dougspeed.com/short).
