As an associate professor in bioinformatics, I lead a research group with two funded strands: AIMS (artificial intelligence on mass spectrometry data) and DREAM (dermatology multi-omics research). I bridge advanced data science and clinical application, with more than 20 years of experience, over 70 peer-reviewed papers, and my own consultancy, Panformatics.
I teach high-performance computing, data science, and machine learning at BSc, MSc, and PhD level. I have supervised more than 20 MSc theses in bioinformatics and more than 50 Projects in Bioinformatics students, and I contribute regularly to course material development.
I collaborate widely with universities (Sheffield Hallam, Linköping), departments at Aarhus University Hospital (forensic medicine, clinical immunology, dermatology, endocrinology), and industry partners such as Bruker and IFF on mass spectrometry and machine learning. The goal is to turn research findings into real solutions for diagnostics and health data.
Based on my research in data science and machine learning, I advise researchers and clinicians on statistical method, experimental design, and power calculations, partly through my consultancy, Panformatics. I am also a regular reviewer for journals in bioinformatics, metabolomics, and clinical chemistry.
For advisory purposes, I have a sole proprietorship consultancy (Panformatics, CVR: 30795067). Please contact me at pallevillesen@gmail.com.
My primary area of responsibility is applied bioinformatics and machine learning on health data: metabolomics, mass spectrometry, and population genomics. I am PI on AIMS (Novo Nordisk Foundation/ODIN) and co-PI on DREAM (Leo Foundation), and I sit on AU's steering committees for Personalized Medicine and Health AI.
