I am a biomedical engineer, PhD and associate professor working at the intersection of clinical medicine, technology and data science. My work combines physiological understanding with engineering and quantitative methods to address clinical problems. I also work strategically with innovation and collaboration between researchers, clinicians and industry to help translate research into societal and clinical value.
My research focuses on advanced cardiovascular monitoring and individualized treatment of patients during surgery and intensive care. I develop and critically evaluate monitoring technologies using physiological data, statistical modelling and clinical studies. I am also interested in linking cardiovascular monitoring to end-organ function, particularly whether kidney function can be better and more timely monitored.
I teach and supervise many types of students, ranging from medical to data science students and at all levels from bachelor’s to PhD, particularly in research methodology, statistics, data analysis and scientific communication. My teaching is predominantly problem- and case-based, with students working actively on real research questions and data. I have also developed interdisciplinary teaching bringing together students from health, engineering and data science.
I collaborate with clinicians, engineers, data scientists and international researchers on cardiovascular monitoring, clinical data and medical technology. My collaborations include researchers at MIT and leading European research groups as well as medical-technology companies. The aim is to combine complementary expertise so that new methods can be rigorously evaluated and, when useful, translated into clinical practice.
I advise researchers on innovation, industry collaboration and commercialization of health research. At Aarhus University, contribute to strategic work on innovation through the Faculty of Health. I also consult for Philips Healthcare, providing scientific expertise in cardiovascular monitoring
My responsibilities span research, teaching and innovation at the Department of Clinical Medicine. Alongside conducting and supervising research, I support researchers in developing collaboration and translating research into societal impact. I contribute to strategic innovation initiatives at department and faculty level and serve as associate editor of international scientific journals as well as consultant for industry.
