Novo approves huge grants for research into sustainable agriculture and food production

Three researchers from Tech have received grants totalling DKK 9.5 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation's programme for research into plant, agriculture and food science.

Associate Professor Kim Hebelstrup from the Department of Agroecology, Associate Professor Mario Martinez-Martinez from the Department of Food Science and Senior Researcher Mette Vestergård Madsen from the Department of Agroecology have each received a grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation's Project Grants for research within Plant Science, Agriculture and Food Biotechnology.

These project grants are awarded to research that addresses some of the major challenges within plant science, agriculture and food science and that supports the development of sustainable agriculture and food production.

The three grants have been awarded to the following researchers and projects at  Aarhus University:

  • Associate Professor Kim Hebelstrup from the Department of Agroecology has received DKK 2,999,850 for the project Opti-R: Optimal R-gene rotation in potatoes.
  • Associate Professor Mario Martinez-Martinez from the Department of Food Science has received DKK 2,989,182 for the project Thermoresistant polysaccharide-based reinforcing fillers for the scalable mimicry of the myofibrillar hierarchy (REINFORCE).
  • Senior Researcher Mette Vestergård Madsen from the Department of Agroecology has received DKK 3,512,253 for the project Phytochemical recruitment of pest suppressive root microbiomes (PhytoRecruit).
